ANAX (Greek: Ἄναξ) an ancient Greek word for; tribal chief, lord, leader.
The Game
Anax is a space themed family tabletop board game for 2-4 players in which you Explore, Build, Trade and fight.
I woke up at 4 am one morning in November 2017, from the middle of a dream where I had been sat with my family playing a space based board game. It had been so vivid that I went down stairs and started creating the board and the cards on my computer immediately. I had a vague impression of the rules but mostly had to start from scratch and invent them.
I have learnt how to create 2D graphics, 3D design for the pieces, print in 3D, Copyright, Trademarks and now trying to work out how much it is going to cost to manufacturer.
I am really proud of what I have achieved and look forward to sharing it with everyone
Over the last year I have been tuning and developing all elements of the game while play testing it with old friends and new. I have taken it to a number of local pubs, and gaming Cafe’s in Bristol, UK Game Expo, and provided copies to game testers in the UK and Poland.
The feedback, I have had, has been very positive and I have taken on board and changed the rules where appropriate. I will be completing more play tests and if all goes to plan launching it on a crowd funding site by the end of the year.
There are two ways to play the game:
- RACE – It is a shorter game with simplified rules and is a great way to learn how to play. It takes about 45 minutes to complete but a little longer if no one has played it before.
- PVP – Player verses Player fighting is allowed. It takes longer to complete as you struggle to be the first to complete your base while your opponents try to stop you. I have seen games finish within an hour it really depends how aggressively the game is being played. The more PVP fights there are, the longer it takes.
I have play tested with children as young as 6 but really recommend 10 as the minimum age so all players can enjoy the game.
